1 Fukuoka / Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine

Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine is the head shrine of all Tenmangu shrines across Japan, dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning. Nearby are the remains of the government office, which in ancient times functioned as the administrative center of the continent and the western capital.

1 Fukuoka / Munakata Taisha

Munakata Taisha is one of Japan's oldest shrines, appearing in Japanese mythology. Three goddesses are enshrined on Okinoshima, Oshima, and the mainland, and these three shrines are collectively called Munakata Taisha.

3  Nagasaki / Peace memorial statue

Nagasaki, where the atomic bomb was dropped, turned the center of the bombing into a park and erected a peace memorial statue to pray for the souls of the victims and eternal peace.

Kujukushima is an archipelago of ria coastline that stretches from Sasebo to Hirado. The entire area is a scenic scenic spot designated as Saikai National Park.

4  Kumamoto / Suizenji Park in Kumamoto City  

Suizenji Park is a daimyo garden. The area is about 73,000 square meters. A Momoyama-style strolling garden centered on a pond created by the abundant underground water of Aso.

4  Kumamoto / Kumamoto Castle

Kumamoto Castle is an impregnable castle, but it has been damaged by earthquakes many times. However, it was restored each time, and although the damage from the 2016 earthquake was quite large, restoration work is progressing.

7 Ohita / Usa Shrine 

Usa Shrine is the head shrine of the Hachiman deity, of which there are over 40,000 across the country. This ancient shrine incorporated the Buddhist Hojoe festival, and the syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism began here.

Kitsuki is known as Oita Prefecture's Little Kyoto, and is a castle town with many slopes, with many samurai residences from that time still remaining.
